Bacoli Archaeology, Herculaneum, and the Almalfi Coast (June 5)

A slow cloudy morning turned into an amazing clear afternoon and evening!

This morning, we visited local archaeological sites in Bacoli.  After lunch, seeing the skies start to clear, we headed to Herculaneum near Naples/Mt. Vesuvius.  A totally clear sky by then, we couldn't skip the Almalfi coast for late afternoon and sunset.  STUNNING. All of it :).

Herculaneum:

Herculaneum, right in/under the modern town

A thermapoleum (eatery)

Caldarium and tempidarium (bath houses)

Below by the boat docks (thinking they could escape). Wow.

Herculaneum, with Mt. Vesuvius in the background.  This is an extremely impressive site.

Thanks MapsMe! (Jane had to drive our dinky car on a sidewalk to cut through a closed intersection in Herculaneum).
