Travel day (June 12)

We're headed to Florence later this morning. Jane starts her way back home via Rome and London; Kristi continues for a week up in the Dolomites (to meet with Sara and Nicole), Venice, one overnight near Milan-Malpensa and then 2 nights in Iceland before heading back state-side...

From Jane:
I got into London super late tonight, after a long day of traveling:  2 hour drive from our Umbria B&B to Florence, a 1 hr train to Rome, hanging out in Rome for several hours, a train to the Rome airport, and a flight from Rome to London.

I still managed to do some sightseeing though, and made it to Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica in Rome.  This is a place that Kristi and I have walked past several times in earlier years, as we made our way to various other sites like the Colosseum, but somehow we had never gone inside.  So, finally, I did, though after the archeological ruins, Bernini staircase and museum had already closed. :(

Regina. Peace.

pretty

Then, on the train ride out of town, I caught a glimpse of the Porto Maggiore!  I learned about this gate in my Roman Architecture class years ago, and think it's pretty cool.
